Howe Park Shooting Sends 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento authorities are probing a gunfire incident that took place Saturday night April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing a large unsanctioned party of multiple hundreds of people.

Prior to the Shooting

Deputies were first called to Howe Park around half past six in the evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Shortly after, a second call came in about an alleged brawl unfolding within the park grounds.

A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Despite this, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had gathered without authorization without permission.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and using their vehicle PA systems ordering attendees to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes Howe Park shooting Sacramento were given for people to comply.

At the height of the dispersal effort that an estimated 20 to 25 shots rang out. Gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four victims were located with gunshot injuries. The four individuals — a group of one female and three male victims each reported to be in their early to late twenties — were brought to nearby hospitals. Medical teams confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire provided support and assisted with medical triage the four victims at the park.

What Investigators Found

The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have unfolded along Cottage Way close to the Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators identified additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were also found in the iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. These discoveries suggested that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives continued working through the early morning hours.

Arrests Made

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Deputies were en route to collect those detained to collect the individuals for further questioning. Surveillance footage established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
